Overview

The RIF Ambassadors initiative, sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company, empowers local leaders to expand Reading Is Fundamental’s reach by engaging neighboring programs and volunteers through a selection of activities. This working honor recognizes the invaluable role of committed local volunteers in advancing RIF’s mission and provides a structure of support for selected ambassadors to further promote children’s literacy and RIF in their communities.

Thanks for a great year!

It hardly seems possible that December will soon be here and our year as RIF Ambassadors will be over. Before the busy holiday season begins, I would like to say thanks to all the RIF Staff and RIF Ambassadors for giving your time and sharing your talents this year. Tried Skype Yet?

Let RIF National help you find RIF programs to have a Skype exchange like we had on Tuesday between a DC RIF site and a site in Alaska; and we'll have folks help coach you on the technical points. It was a GREAT experience!

Every year Page Ahead asks its RIF sites to tell us about a successful reading activity that they held. Below, in their own words, are a couple that caught my eye.

Deer Park Elementary, Spokane, WA
Our most well attended program was "Reading Is Out Of This World". It was a space themed event. Books and Brownies

We have begun planning our Books and Brownies event. It is our fall kick off event. Usually it takes place in September but do to various medical leaves amongst the committee, it has been pushed to the beginning of December.

Many years ago, we had a teacher who had a passion for books and baking die of cancer. As a tribute to her, we began Books and Brownies. At our fall event, the students are told the story of Mrs. Bowin and her famous homemade brownies that she use to make for her students.… Continue
